Dead Mount Death Play (デッドマウント・デスプレイ Deddo Maunto Desupurei) is a seinen manga written by Ryohgo Narita and illustrated by Shinta Fujimoto. It is serialized in the semi-monthly Young Gangan magazine and published in Japanese, English and French by Square Enix, Yen On and Ki-oon respectively.
History[]
During the two years leading up to Dead Mount Death Play, Fujimoto, a self-professed fan of Narita's Baccano! light novel series, illustrated a BACCANO! manga adaptation that was serialized in Young Gangan until January 06, 2017. His and Narita's collaboration proved enough of a personal success as to usher in a second one in the same magazine, with Dead Mount Death Play thus planned for an October start.
By Autumn of that year, however, Narita was experiencing major health difficulties[1] that necessitated the immediate delay[2] of his other significant Autumn 2017 releases, including the twenty-third volume of Baccano!, which Dengeki Bunko's website had briefly projected for September, and his serialized Bleach novel. The debut of Dead Mount Death Play was the one notable exception that proceeded to release on time, due to Narita having written the manuscripts for multiple chapters in advance.
Plot[]
After a fight to the death with the Calamity Crusher, the Corpse God—a necromancer without peer—reincarnates as Polka Shinoyama in early twenty-first century Japan's Shinjuku ward. All he wants is a peaceful, quiet life, and Shinjuku seems like his best chance at one yet. Even if Shinjuku has other ideas.
It turns out that earning money is the least of his problems, some of which are inherited. On the one hand, the Corpse God's necromancy draws the attention of Shinjuku's police and troublemakers alike. On the other is everything to do with the real Polka Shinoyama, from his powerful family to the matter of his murder.
All this and more stands in the Corpse God's way, but he is determined to achieve the peaceful life he so desires against all costs. No matter what it takes—or how long it takes—he will have his peace.

Each manga volume contains an exclusive Dead Mount Death Play short story by Narita that appends the main content. These short stories, which are labeled 'Episodes,' advance the plot that take place in the Other World following Corpse God's reincarnation. Many volumes also contain 1–3 bonus mini-comics between chapters, and less commonly a few bonus full-page comics after the main content. Finally, every volume highlights a new 'specimen' in the manner of an encyclopedic entry for a "super-fun, illustrated guide to Dead Mount Death Play."
Fans who purchase the digital editions of the Japanese volumes may receive an exclusive digital color illustration as drawn by Fujimoto.
